On Friday the 14th of June an English theatre visited our school. There were two actors in total who – on top of acting – managed the whole thing. The 21-years-old actor named Jack from Liverpool played multiple roles through the whole show and the 24-year-old actress Rowan from Scottland stuck with the role of the maincharacter. They appeared as a really good team and handeled the crowd of loud students very well. At the Q and A after the play we got to know that they met each other one year ago when they auditioned for the job. Since then, they have been acting in Germany and did a total 122 of shows in this timeperiod and as their contract ends in a month, they had the goal of doing 150 shows in total.
Before the show started the emotions among the students where mixed as some were excited and looking forward to it and others seemed rather annoyed. For the reason of their lacking English skills some pupils didn’t seem too thrilled and feared they would be sitting there for an hour and not understand anything. But that was probably the reason our school picked an English-speaking theatre show in the first place as they wanted us – the students – to improve and upgrade our English skills and also give us an enjoyable experience.
In addition to that it seemed like the school had picked this certain play, called “Game On” as it was about video game addictions and the struggles that come with it for teenagers of our generation. It is an important topic to talk about as teenagers struggle with all kinds of addictions. The maincharacter of the play is a 15-year-old girl named Saskia who is seriously addicted to the game “Fortnight”. She forgets about important things like sleeping, eating, showering and even comes to school in a pyjama one day. Her bestfriend Ed tries the game with her but does not understand the thrill at all and also tries to tell her that she is addicted and that she is losing her connection to reality. Saskia does not see it like that and is convinced that she has everything under control. This disagreement leads to fights with her best friend as well as with her father. At some point in the play, she feels like she is inside of the game and has lost the connection to her body in the real world. At this point she realises that her life is really going wrong. After that Saskia swears to herself that she will not continue playing this game the moment she returns fully to her body. The whole time she is accompanied by a kind of imaginary host who is constanly giving her advice but also kind of laughs about her at some points and calls her stupid.
Troughout the whole play the two actors interacted with the crowd and included the students in the show. For example, when Saskia came to school in pyjamas, she asked the crowd who could give her spare clothes and one student gave her a sweater while another one gave her his shoes. Or when Jack, who was playing a mathteacher at the time, ran into the crowd and asked people if they were sleeping in his class. Then he walked up to one of our teachers and asked him the same and to prove that he was awake he was told to sing a song. So, the mathteacher Mister Haase stood up and started to loudly sing an improvised self-composed song about math: „1+1 is 2“. That was definetly the moment when the crowd was shouting and cheering the most. In other moments when the actors changed the stage design, they would pretend to throw stuff at the audience and laugh at the students who flinched and got scared.
It is safe to say that it was a great experience for everyone and even the students who were not so excited in the beginning had a lot of fun. Before the show I heard a few people saying that we could have just watched an English movie if it was all about us improving our English, but I think this was a way better method to raise the students’ positive attitude towards the language.

Daher bin ich Blindtext. Und zwar von Geburt an. Obwohl es lange gedauert hat, bis ich das begriffen habe. Und was es bedeutet, ein blinder Text zu sein. Daher hat man keinen Sinn. Somit wirke ich hier und da aus dem Zusammenhang gerissen. Entsprechend wird man gar nicht erst gelesen. Aber bin abschließend ich deshalb ein schlechter Text? Und ich weiß, dass ich nie eine Chance haben werde. Zum Beispiel im Stern zu erscheinen. Aber bin ich darum weniger wichtig? Und ich bin blind! Aber ich bin gerne Text. Daher sollten Sie mich jetzt tatsächlich zu Ende lesen. Dann habe ich etwas geschafft, was den meisten normalen Texten nicht gelingt.

Denn es ist wirklich ein hartes Los, Blindtext zu sein. Üblicherweise fülle ich lediglich einen Raum. Und zwar mit Buchstaben. Aber eigentlich fühle ich mich zu Höherem berufen. Somit will ich ein besonderer Blindtext sein. Und ich will Ihnen im Gedächtnis bleiben. Daher sollen Sie Ihren Enkeln von mir erzählen. Somit dem Blindtext, den Sie seinerzeit lasen und der Sie fesselte. Und zwar mehr als zum Beispiel viele Bücher. Im Gegensatz dazu alle, die Sie sich bis dahin gekauft hatten. Soviel nur um dann festzustellen, dass Sinntext für Sie auch nicht mehr Sinn ergab. Als ein Blindtext, wie ich es bin. Und zwar welch eine Enttäuschung!

Somit ist es doch sicherlich viel besser. Und zwar von vornherein darauf vorbereitet zu sein. Nämlich dass der Text, dem man gleich seine Aufmerksamkeit schenken wird. Indes absolut keinen Sinn ergibt. Weil er gar nicht dazu vorgesehen ist, einen Inhalt zu transportieren. Daher Blindtexte sollen nun mal Text nur darstellen. Aber bin ich aufgrund deshalb weniger wert? Somit sagen Sie ehrlich Ihre Meinung. Beziehungsweise finden Sie, dass ich keine Daseinsberechtigung habe? Und zwar nur weil ich aufgrund keinen Sinn ergebe? Somit ist es doch immerhin gelungen, Sie bis hierher zu fesseln. Daher lesen Sie ja immer noch. Daher bin ich stolz! Weil es geglückt ist, was viele Texte vor mir nicht vermochten. Und zwar echtes Interesse des Lesers. Daher danke ich Ihnen für Ihre Aufmerksamkeit!
